The story is set in Sydney, Australia, and is about Cliff Hamilton and Alexis Herrington: Once they were the hottest couple in Hollywood but now are bitterly divorced. They meet eighteen years after their most publicised divorce and start right back where they left off.

Cliff and Alexis have a son Brick, who had a secret affair with Crystal Ayres. Crystal Ayres is a triple Tony Award winning Director and is about to cast a modernised version of William Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra, called Tony and Cleo. Brick is the father of Crystal's daughter Skye. No one knows about Skye, until now.

Claudia Gaynor, who can only be described as the town bike, finds out about Skye and plans to use it to get back at Brick, who had an affair ten years earlier with Claudia. She is currently doing Rock Hamilton, Bricks Uncle. Rock is an ageing movie actor from the Golden Years of Hollywood and married TrixieEllen, an alcoholic who has spent the last five years at the Betty Ford clinic in the USA.

Cliff Hamilton also has a son Claye to Claudia's twin sister Michelle, who has just died of cancer. Claye is eighteen and is as sexually active as his Aunt Claudia. Throw in a Russian-English Actress, a French Waitress, a Lounge Singer and a piano player. Mix together and shake well and you have Days of the Restless.
